There will probably be those who think that knowing how to cut panettone correctly isn’t of importance, yet offering a nice slice of panettone that doesn’t crumble can be a difficult undertaking

Temperature

Foremost, you need to make sure that the panettone is at room temperature

If the panettone is too cold and/or wet, it will crumble very easily when cut

How do you know that the temperature is proper?

After unwrapping it, hold it, and if you feel ‘butter’ in your hands, it means that the temperature is perfect

Unwrapping

Then, remove the paper that encases the panettone carefully
This paper is used for leavening, baking and packaging – it should be peeled off before cutting

Cutting

  1. Cut the panettone in half with a very sharp saw knife
  2. Stand the two halves on a smooth cutting board with the round part toward you and then cut one half of the panettone perpendicularly with a steady hand
  3. Then proceed to cut diagonally the slices to the desired size
